Four years ago when I announced that I was going to put my cell phone number on the City web site you can imagine the raised eyebrows. I always enjoy the shocked sound in someone's voice when they realize that I really do answer the number on the web site.

Email is the quickest most efficient way to contact me. I often spend several hours each night responding to my emails. I enjoy the emails and they are perhaps the most valuable tool I have to stay in touch with residents.
I list both personal and City contact information because I hope everyone will feel free to contact me about official City business or campaign related business. No doubt the line between the two is sometimes thin and I'll do my best to keep them separate. I suppose it wouldn't be unusual to have an email or phone call that contains some of both.

The Mayor's blog has been one of the best tools I can imagine for staying in touch with residents. By the time of the November election it will have had over 500,000 page views. The blog gives me a chance to share what's on my mind and give insight on both trivial and important issues. While it started out as a personal tool to communicate it has long since transformed into a City asset. During the campaign season I will do all I can to insure that it is not used to promote my reelection. I welcome the public's feedback as I navigate this difficult thin line.
I've decided to use a blog instead of a web site for my campaign. It's free and allows me to change or ad to it without being dependent on a programer. It wasn't a hard decision. However, it may not look as professional as an expensive web site so I hope you will all tolerate the decision.
